Jewelry Projects from Beading Insider

Cathy Jakicic, editor of Bead Style Magazine, shares original designs and expert advice in this informative book. Cathy shares 10 skill-building workshops, multiple projects designed with a good variety of materials, supplies & techniques, hundreds of tips and more.  The techniques are described well with good instructions and full color stepped-out photos.  The variety of project designs is diverse – delicate to bold – basic to intricate – and everything in between.  Her projects seem achievable for jewelry makers at almost any level due to her clear instructions and color step-out photos. I especially liked the section on Creativity Boosts which encourages you to take the techniques learned in the book and try some projects a bit more complex – to think a bit outside the box.
One of my favorite projects was this nifty bracelet made with paper – it’s a twist on a childhood creative project that brings it up to the grown-up level.

I also thought her twist on using a wide variety of mixed-metal chains to create a unique necklace was a great idea.   I’ll be saving all my scraps of chain for sure…

If you are new to the world of jewelry design, I think this book would be a good addition to your library as it covers such a wide variety of skills and working with a variety of materials. It’s a good way to learn must-needed skills, dabble with bold chunky beads, and try your hand at seed beads too.
