If you’re a parent, you probably well aware of how many different roles you play in your daily lives and your children’s lives. Great Job, Mom! and Great Job, Dad! Both from author and needle felting artist Holman Wang are sweet and gentle odes to moms and dads that may just help your child understand all that you do for them.
We were supplied with a copy of Great Job, Dad! starring the “felted versions of Holman and his kids, Celia and Felix.” Told from the point of view of a child, we’re told that “…dad works as a manager from nine to five each day.” We learn that he also a “waiter, except without pay,” that “Quite often he becomes chauffeur for several VIPs” and that “He acts as an inspector, too – it matters what he sees.” All of “dad’s” roles are illustrated with clever and sometimes cheeky photographs.
From the accompanying press release, we’re told that Great Job, Mom! stars “the fuzzy version of (Holman’s) wife, Amy – and their dog, a puggle named Henry. And while the books are “semi-autobiographical,” they also speak to a “broader, universal experience. It’s the perfect read and, conversation starter, before tucking your children in for the night.
Presented simply, but beautifully, both books feature the author’s needle felting talent, scale model building skills and perspective photography artistry. There is even a behind the scenes section illustrating how Holman put the books together.
