Yesterday, I spent the day taking my daughter to dress rehearsals and her dance recital. I was out of the studio all day, when I got home and checked my email at 9pm, I saw that I made money. As a creative mom, who wants to be there for all my child’s activities, but still wants to run a creative business, finding ways to make this happen is vital to being successful in both roles.
My secret? I’ve set-up multiple ways to bring money in. Look at all the successful people out there and you will realize that they all make money from multiple streams of income. Take Martha Stewart for example. She has TV shows, books, a magazine, licensing agreements with a number of product lines, a craft line, and the list goes on and on. Each area brings in a stream of income for her and if one area isn't doing well, she still has money coming in from another area. As artists and crafters, we have many ways to make money from doing our art. Here are a few different ways you can generate money:
- Commissions/Custom orders
- Wholesaling our artwork (online and/or in brick & mortar shops)
- Retailing our artwork online and/or in a brick & mortar shop)
- Craft Shows/Art Fairs
- Teaching
- Book & Magazine publication
- Endorsement Programs/Designer Programs
- Affiliate Programs
- Licensing our Artwork
- Product Development
Each of these areas, if worked on, can bring you income from doing what you love to do. You just need to find the right combination. Take some time today and make a list of the strategies you want to incorporate into your business.
If you want to learn more about setting-up your business to generate multiple streams of income, why not join my Multiple Streams of Income Ecourse this month? It runs from July 10-20 and is completely online, so you can work at on your own pace.
