Winter is upon us and for many that means snow, ice, and bitter cold. Being from New England, I remember that for sure! But here in NC it doesn’t always mean snow, which sometimes makes the boys a bit sad (until the first storm does hit, then they remember what it’s like to play outside for 15 minutes then be soaking wet and freezing cold!). Back in 2005 when they were still quite young, they decided during Christmas break from school that they were going to do a little sledding with or without snow - and off they went. Out came the cardboard in the garage waiting to be recycled, out came the silver Duck tape, and then came a few of hours of fun!
I had to capture their crazy antics and document them for their scrapbook albums. Following their lead, I whipped out some scrap cardboard and silver Duck tape and had some fun of my own. When scrapbooking, of course it’s important to capture the memory itself, but I find it just as fun to come up with truly unique ways to display the photos. The layout starts with a sheet of winter text background paper - and then I piled on the silly details including torn cardboard (always use copies of your photos - cardboard is not always photo safe!), silver Duck tape borders and mats beneath the small photos, clear snowflake transparency embellishments, lettering printed onto transparency, metal letters, paint stamped (“cardboard”) lettering to mimic the mud they ended up stirring up while sliding down our small gully, die cut lettering enhanced with silver leafing pen and sparkling chunky glitter (snow!). The journaling block has a clear snowflake topper and pulls out from a hidden pocket behind the cardboard on the bottom of the page.
Capture some winter memories of your own this season, and unleash your creativity to preserve them in fun and unique ways! And remember, the When Creativity Knocks team always loves it when you share YOUR creativity with us!
