Amaco’s new Cloud Clay is a versatile medium. It can be shaped, molded, pulled, twisted or rolled thin. Amaco Cloud Clay is non-toxic, does not shrink, and it bounces! It dries completely overnight and extra clay can be stored in an airtight container. The packaging states “This modeling clay will stretch far enough to fit your child’s imagination!” I decided to test that theory as my son Thomas needed to create a dogsled with dogs for a book report project for school. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to have him review the Cloud Clay and Craft Pasta Machine. |

| Thomas found the bags of Cloud Clay easy to open without scissors. He thought the scent of the clay was similar to sunscreen. Thomas said it felt a lot like “wet” fun foam. I agree with him – it feels like fun foam, only soft and pliable. He really liked the fact that it was soft and stretchy, and moldable by hand or in molds. He thought it was really “cool” that the clay would bounce when dry! | ![]() |

Amaco Cloud Clay is available in 8 colors. Thomas easily mixed the terra cotta and white clays together to create a peach tone. His favorite mixing technique was twisting the clays together repeatedly! Amaco Cloud Clay is stretchy enough for this technique. |

| I tried using the Craft Pasta Machine to roll the Cloud Clay on the thinnest setting to create rose petals. This machine does not have non-stick rollers, however the Cloud Clay rolled through easily. I found even the thinnest setting to be a little thicker than I use to make petals, but it worked well on all settings and was easy for Thomas to use. He was able to change the thickness setting easily and crank the handle. These are the roses Thomas and I created using the machine on the 1st setting. | ![]() |

Some of his dogs required added details, so Thomas used acrylic paints which worked well on the dry clay. He did try mixing paint with wet clay, but the cla y became too sticky to work with. |

One last experiment Thomas and I did with the Amaco Cloud Clay was to impress and image using a rubber stamp. This seemed to work well and the clay maintained most of the detail of the stamp itself. |
