Does Santa fill stockings for little girl’s dolls? At my house he does! My daughter has two 18” dolls, one named Nancy and one named Catherine. She is constantly replicating her own life when she plays with the dolls and it’s very important to her that her dolls have Christmas stockings. So, one of our Advent Activities was to make mini, felt stockings for her dolls. Here’s how we did it:
Supplies:
- 1 sheet of craft felt
- Any scraps you have on hand to use as embellishments-we used ribbon, rickrack, and chipboard letters
- Fabric Glue
- Sewing Machine (optional)
- Stocking Template
- Ribbon or string
Technique:
- Use my stocking template to trace two stocking shapes onto your piece of craft felt
- You can either sew or glue the stocking shapes together. (If you choose to sew them, please make sure you help your child for safety reasons.) Instead of sewing the felt right sides together and turning the stocking, I just sewed a ¼” around the edge of the stocking and then used to pinking shears to finish the edges. Whether you are gluing or sewing, be sure you leave the top of the stocking open. Otherwise, where will Santa put the gifts?
- Have your child decide on the embellishments. I handed my daughter my stash of scraps and she “designed” the stocking herself. Use fabric glue to attach the scraps to the stocking.
- Glue a loop of ribbon or string to one side of the top of the stocking so you can hang it by the chimney with care!
This is a very quick project that your child will love. I know Santa will be filing the our doll’s stockings with mini-candy canes and maybe some small doll accessories this year.
