Crafting with Wooden Crates and Pallets: 25 Simple Projects to Style Your Home
by Natalie Wright
Wooden pallet art has come into favor lately including colorful examples from our friend Mark LaFerney.
To take the craft one step further, author Natalie Wright has assembled Crafting with Wooden Crates and Pallets, a diverse collection of handmade projects for all ages. Wright leads the reader through building a simple Crate, a whimsical Crate Lemonade Stand and a colorful Roller Toy Box, among others.
There are 25 projects ranging in difficulty from simple construction to more complex designs. All are presented with easy-to-understand step-by-step instructions and crisp, colorful photography. “You don’t have to be a carpenter or a home improvement expert to undertake these twenty-five projects, which combine elements of crafting and woodworking.” One I found especially attractive is the Pallet Wooden Sign. Easily adaptable to a plethora of “four letter words,” I could see myself recreating the now famous Pop Art LOVE sign.
As I mentioned in previous reviews involving wood and sawing, you might need to rely on your local hardware and lumber store to measure and cut your custom board lengths if you are an apartment dweller (like me) or you just don’t have your own jigsaw or table saw standing by.
That said, Crafting with Wooden Crates and Pallets is the perfect gift for your “handy” friends. Many, if not all, of the included projects would make attractive handmade gifts for family and friends.
Crafting with Wooden Crates and Pallets is a publication of Dover Publications and is expected to be available August 15, 2018. The book retails for $19.95US.
